Definition: Bearbeiten

Smalltalk is a sort of informal, friendly conversation that happens spontaneous, random and casually without draft. It is a discussion about non-sensitive topics in a social setting and usually performed while meeting someone for the first time, or simply out of politeness.

Smalltalk is based on three main questions:Bearbeiten

- Who?Bearbeiten

The most people who use small talk don‘t know each other well or at all. Common situations for small talk are being alone with a friend of a friend or working at the same workplace with someone you do not really know and like.

- Why?Bearbeiten

Ice-breakers, get in contact, to avoid awkward silence, to loosen the atmosphere

- What to talk about? Bearbeiten

Nothing important, things everyone can have an opinion about,

For example:

introduction of yourself

global problems

current events

! Be careful with difficult thermes like: politics, religion!

- Where?Bearbeiten

Anywhere e.g.: - train, clubs/pubs, waiting rooms, hairdressers, toilet, queue, on holiday, …

to find common ground
